Most California State Bar members are required to complete 25 hours of MCLE every three years. Of these, some must be on legal ethics, some on the prevention, detection, and treatment of substance abuse and emotional distress, some on the elimination of bias in the legal profession, and the rest on material of significant current intellectual or practical content related to legal subjects and the legal profession.

Half the required MCLE credit can be taken in the form of self-study.

Listening to Finz's ADVANCE TAPES monthly audio case summaries qualifies as a general, self-study CA CLE activity. The amount for each month is usually one unit and the amount for each bi-monthly addition is usually 1.25 units, however, check the insert that comes with your summaries for the exact CLE credit each month.

Our soon to be launched Federal Immigration Law case summary series will be automatically available in CA for credit as described above. In addition, it will be submitted for "Immigration Specialization Credit" in CA and for regular CLE credit in WA and IL on an issue, by issue basis.

Lawyers are required to keep their own records of compliance, which are subject to audit by The State Bar. Credit for listening to each tape or audio CD can be taken only once, and only during the compliance period in which the activity was completed by the member.

All of our case summary audio programs may be submitted individually by an attorney for credit in another state. We will help by providing backup material as needed.
